My Top 3 Excursions

This is for those of you who may have seen my Instagram video on my favourite excursions. This is to give you more of an in-depth idea on price, what each excursion included and over-all ratings.

Number 3- Kutná Hora, Czech Republic.

The silver mining town of Kutná Hora, a UNESCO World Heritage site, comes in at number 3 on my list because of the beautiful architecture of St. Barbara’s Cathedral and the uniqueness of the Sedlec Ossuary/ Bone Chapel.

I booked our tickets though https://www.neweuropetours.eu/sandemans-tours/prague/day-trip-kutna-hora-from-prague/ and it came in at 38 euros each (roughly £32-36 depending on exchange rate). I have to say our tour guide was probably one of the best tour guides I’ve ever had on a trip; the tour included:

  • ·         Transport from Old Town Square and back
  • ·         Entrance into the Sedlec Ossuary/ Bone Chapel
  • ·         Entrance into St Barbara’s Cathedral
  • ·         Stop at Dačický restaurant

Things to be aware of:

  • ·         Photography and videography are prohibited in the Sedlec Ossuary.
  • ·         There is quite a bit of walking so comfortable shoes is a must.
  • ·         St Barbara’s Cathedral has a higher level but the stairs to the top are very steep, narrow and there are A LOT of them, so be aware before you decide to start. There are parts where only one person at a time can climb (up or down).
  • ·         The restaurant stop isn’t included in ticket price so either bring a packed lunch or extra cash.

Number 2- Pyramids of Giza, Egypt.

The Number 1 Wonder of the World comes in at number 2 on my list. After growing up with a deep interest of Egyptology and having it on my bucket list for years, ticking it off felt incredible.  We made a conscious choice to pay a local tour guide and local elder men who owned camels rather than buying tour tickets online. We had previously agreed on 800 EGP each, but when we got there the price was put up to 3500 EGP for all three of us (1166 EGP each). This came in at around £54/55 each. Considering the excursion, we were doing we were not going to argue. This included:

  • ·         Camel/ horse journey across the desert
  • ·         All photography
  • ·         Up close (touchable distance) to the Pyramids
  • ·         Views of the Sphinx
  • ·         Entrance to tombs
  • ·         Lunch with the local elder men

Things to be aware of:

  • ·         Make sure you bring enough water for the day.
  • ·         Have sunscreen and something to cover your shoulders- the desert sun is very unforgiving.
  • ·         A scarf for your head
  • ·         Make sure you have spare cash for hustlers lol, being hustled/ scammed is pretty normal. Men will try and charge for any and everything, including helping you take pictures (you didn’t ask for), head scarves (you didn’t ask for), pictures inside the tombs (if you don’t pay they’ll make you delete the pictures off your phone). I make it sound bad but honestly the living conditions and sate of wealth out there is poor, so you just have to respect the hustle and help them out with spare cash!

Number 1- Zip-lining, Dominica Republic.

A full day of varying activities in Dominica Republic comes in at number 1. There was not one activity I disliked; the day started early at 8:00AM and included about an hour or so of collecting passengers from neighbouring hotels but after that it was non-stop fun. Again, for this tour, we made a point of booking with a local tour guide we had made friends with and not online. We paid 4,000 Dominican pesos which was roughly £50. This included:

  • ·         Hotel pickup/drop offs and transport for the day
  • ·         Dune buggies
  • ·         Private beach stop w/ drinks
  • ·         All photography of the day
  • ·         Horseback riding
  • ·         Trekking through the rainforest and ziplining over the rainforest
  • ·         Learning about the communities and the trade of tobacco and cacao farm
  • ·         Hot cooked lunch, snack stop and water throughout the day

Things to be aware of:

  • ·         Have extra change on standby for village kids during the Dune Buggy rides (they bring you flowers)
  • ·         The trek is no joke, I was so unfit at the time haha so just be aware it will work you out.
  • ·         There is a shop where you can buy Mamajuana (national drink) but bring cash, we both tried to pay with card and the WIFI connection dropped 4 or 5 times and we couldn’t pay. It was a shame because the money goes straight back into the community.
  • ·         Although water is provided, always have a bottle or two on hand. DR is hot!

Although I paid locally, here’s links to where you can buy tickets for similar Pyramid and DR tours:
